| Teirnan's
Rose
This poem was written for a newborn baby boy, Teirnan, for his
"awakening". It was presented to him with an artificial
rose. The purpose of the celebration was for his family's friends
to give a token to the newborn so he would know he was surrounded by
friends right from the beginning.
Conduct
Short. An experiment with words, embracing oxymoron and trying to
"show", not "tell".
Redstone
Inspired by eight years of marriage and Redstone, Colorado. I have
a soft spot for this one.
Cold
Feet
This is a strange little free verse piece. I found it when I was
going through some documents on a laptop. I'm pretty sure I wrote
it just so that my wife would say "yuck". This is one
reason never to lay in bed with a laptop computer. (By the way,
it's supposed to be funny, in a dark sort of way.)
Connection
Problem
Free-verse. This is the latest I've written. I wrote it on
Friday the 13th, based on an event that happened that same day. It
was a creepy event. I hope it comes across that way.
Bypass
A short, free-verse piece
Unhealthy
Relationships
A ballad. Tragic comedy? I'd love to have your comments on
this one!
These are three poems I have
written that deal with suicide, from a first person perspective. They're
almost a "series", and I plan to add more soon:
Concrete Plans
Free verse. The first in this "series", and perhaps my
favorite. (Note: Some of the lines in this piece are very
long. They might break into two lines on your screen if you are
not viewing at a resolution of at least 800x600)
God, How I Fell
Free verse. The second in the series. I'll be developing this one
further, when the moment is right. (Note: Some of the
lines in this piece are very long. They might break into two
lines on your screen if you are not viewing at a resolution of at
least 800x600)
The Last
Things that Went Through My Mind
This could be considered a ballad. The third in the series, but
it won't be the last. (There are so many ways to end one's
life!)
A Few Haiku
Just what it says it is
One Last
Shot at Sanity
Free verse. This has some violent elements, and that always amazes
me because I've never been in a fight in my life. I like this
piece because it came from the heart, but I don't like it at the same
time. It's good to get the infection out of your body so you can
look at it, and not let it fester. I'm hoping this is the last of
one particular infection I had for the first 24 years of my life.
Blink
Free verse. A little ditty with a twist for the reader (I hope).
Man
in the Moon
Free verse. This is a much older piece, from when I was first
dabbling with free verse. Don't hold it against me.
