Current
donation total: $9,292.12
from 345
individual donors
as of 01-09-2005 at 6:25 pm CST
Update:
If
you're planning to make a donation,
please do so by the end of day, Sunday, January 9th. I'll likely take
the donation button off of the site next Monday but continue to
redirect people to (hopefully) PayPal-friendly donation sites. Thank
you all for your kindness and generosity!

By
now you've heard
about the devastation in southern Asia caused by the earthquake and
resulting
tsunamis. As
of this writing (1:45 am CST, January 3, 2005), it is estimated that the
death toll will reach 155,000 people and leave approximately one
million
people
without shelter.
The aftermath of contamination and disease from the
death and decay is certain to double the number of deaths.
This site is a place
where you can donate any
amount, via credit card or
PayPal account, to a PayPal fund set up for this event. Every
cent will be donated to
an AmeriCares fund specifically
for the Asian tsunami and earthquake relief.
If, instead of
contributing here, you would rather donate directly to a charity that
is set up to provide disaster relief for this tragedy, follow one of
the donations links below or find another avenue
to donate. This site is an easy way for you to send
a few dollars (or more) that may already be sitting in your PayPal
account, or donate directly from a credit card and let those small
donations amount to something bigger as a
community. As you can see, the donations really begin to add up!
Thank you all for your
generosity!

The first $5,000
of
the donations has been successfully transferred to AmeriCares! A
final donation will be compiled after all donations are collected,
cleared and accounted for. All
who have donated by 1:00pm CST on January 5 have been notified by email
about the donations so far. Further updates will be posted on this
site. All donations will include a link to this
site
to show AmeriCares that it was a community effort.
I'd like to give an extra special
thank you to
Drew Curtis for "green
lighting" an article
about this site on
Fark.com. On that day alone, this site had 5,787 visits and
raised over $5,000. Thank you so much!

| Updates! |
01-03-2005, 7:40 pm CST: PayPal has just responded to
my request that all of the normal fees be waived for these
donations! Read the email
on the correspondence page. Thanks PayPal!
A second donation of $4000 has
been
successfully transmitted
to AmeriCares! Let's keep the money coming in. They are estimating
that the relief effort will take at least ten years
to complete!
The first
AmeriCares airlift arrives in Sri Lanka
delivering, "disaster relief supplies including antibiotics,
analgesics, basic first aid supplies, and enough water treatment
sachets to purify four million liters of water." Let's
keep raising money
to help these efforts!
The donor list has
grown too large to fit
along the side, so now
you'll find it on its own page.
The first $1000 has
been
successfully transmitted
to AmeriCares!
12-30, Three
interviews and
four newscasts later, this web site has
been the top news story in Amarillo, Texas today! Here
is the
article on our local "KVII News
Channel 7." (Maybe this will
help ease some of your concerns about whether this is "for real" or
not.)
We've officially
been "Farked". :-)
12-29, 10:10 pm CST -
I've posted an answer to the inevitable
questions on the correspondence
page.
We've
been linked from The
Command Post , DarWilliams.net
and Luxury
Cruise Talk. Thank you!
12-29, 3:20 pm CST - We
reached $1000! I've
arranged for a transfer of the funds to be paid to AmeriCare. They
cannot accept PayPal transfers, so I'm putting it on a credit card as
soon as the money hits it. They are contacting their
webmaster to see about accepting PayPal transfers direct in the near
future!
12-29, 1:10 pm CST -
Added a page for
correspondence regarding this
site, and an email to
AmeriCares.
