NaNo Update: Speedbumps
November 23, 2007 11:46 pm NaNoWriMo, PersonalJust when I thought everything was rocking along and I was assured (from the book about NaNo and many testimonials) that Week 3 would be a mad rush of creative juice that I would be wise to utilize to up my word count, instead, I fell behind, caught up, then fell behind again. All has not been lost, however.
Today I decided to make up for precious lost time - but my problem wasn’t that I didn’t have the time or even the motivation to write, it’s just that I kept getting myself stuck. I sat for a long time today, staring at the screen, not knowing which character or which situation to write about, or where any of them were going. Finally, I hit a goldmine of breakthroughs and I’m about halfway toward my almost-6,000 word catch-up goal. Loose ends have found some neat ways to tie themselves up. The ending seems clear, but not too detailed, so I shouldn’t lose interest in writing it. (I’m kind of odd like that, maybe, I don’t know.)
As I write this, I’ve just hit a word count of 35,476, with 2,865 words to go before midnight so that I can be 100% back on track. Hmm…not much more than an hour to go…
Update, 1:06am, 11-24-07: Close, but no cigar. I made it to 37,920, still shy of my catch-up goal, but close enough to retire for the night.
